Photoluminescence Detected Magnetic Resonance (PLDMR) is a powerful spectroscopic technique used primarily in the study of semiconductors, organic materials, and nanostructures. It combines photoluminescence (PL) and magnetic resonance to probe the spin-dependent processes that affect light emission in materials.
An AMETEK Signal Recovery 7230A lock-in amplifier plays a crucial role in Photoluminescence Detected Magnetic Resonance (PLDMR) by enabling the detection of very small changes in photoluminescence (PL) that are synchronized with the applied microwave modulation.
Lock-in Amplifiers play a critical role in the PLDMR application:
- The lock-in amplifier uses the microwave modulation frequency as a reference.
- It isolates the small PL changes that are synchronous with the microwave modulation.
- This allows detection of changes in PL as small as nanovolts, even in the presence of large background noise.
Ametek have published a new Application Note offering more insights on the capabilities of Signal Recovery's 7230 Lock-in Amplifier and how it adds value to the PLDMR application.
