The Thorlabs GSL41A Laser at 405 ± 10 nm has an FC/PC fiber pigtail of total length 85 ± 5 cm attached to the front panel. The fiber in the pigtail is end-capped with 500 ± 50 µm of coreless termination fiber, with a mode-field diameter of 85 ± 8 µm at the output. The end cap allows the beam to expand before the end facet of the fiber, reducing the optical power density and preventing the accumulation of material at the air-fiber interface that is often observed to degrade fiber performance over time in higher power, near-UV wavelength fiber-coupled lasers.
Features:
- 405 nm Gain-Switched Laser
- Permanently Attached FC/PC Fiber Pigtail With an End-Cap
- Total Pigtail Length of 85 ± 5 cm
Thorlabs' GSL Series Gain-Switched Lasers provide picosecond, nanosecond, and continuous wave operation in compact, fiber-coupled, turnkey sources. Gain-switched pulse generation with adjustable pulse widths and repetition rates up to 200 MHz makes these lasers suitable for high-speed imaging, fluorescence lifetime measurements, and impulse testing. GSL series lasers are also ideal seed sources for additional amplification using the Thorlabs range of fiber-based amplifiers.
The drive electronics and temperature control circuits for the laser diode are integrated into each device and are powered by an included DS15 power supply with a region-specific plug. Item # GSL41A has an FC/PC fiber pigtail output. The other GSL series lasers have an FC/APC connector on the front panel for the output. The single-mode fiber-coupled output of the GSL series lasers allows for integration with a wide range of fiber-terminated devices.
Permanent Pigtail With an End Cap
The 405 nm version, Item # GSL41A, is a unique laser in this series because it comes with a permanently attached FC/PC fiber pigtail with a 500 ± 50 µm long end cap. The end cap allows the beam to expand before the end facet of the fiber, reducing the optical power density and preventing the accumulation of material at the air-fiber interface that is often observed to degrade fiber performance over time in higher power, near-UV wavelength fiber-coupled lasers.
