LaVision Cameras News

LaVision and TU Delft are offering an Advanced 3D PIV/PTV Course with focus on volumetric flow measurements

The course will be held in collaboration with the Delft University of Technology from the 23rd until the 25th of November 2026.

Discover the potential of LaVision flow measurement systems.
The course is focused on volumetric flow measurements as performed using 3D Lagrangian Particle Tracking (LPT) using the state-of-the-art Shake-the-Box (STB) algorithms.

Interesting comparison of stereoscopic particle image velocimetry and volumetric particle tracking velocimetry applied in the wake of a ducted propellers

The interaction of ship and waterways is of high importance in inland navigation. Particle Image Velocimetry method was used to get validation data for CFD simulations. 2D3C PIV measures three velocity components simultaneously within a thin light sheet, resolving the flow in a 2D plane. However, for many applications and deeper understanding of transient 3D flows, it is desirable to measure in a complete volume. Previous 3D particle tracking velocimetry systems suffered from low resolution and difficulty with higher density tracer particles.

LaVision: An impressive movie from the German Aerospace Center (DLR) shows the beauty of an induced turbulent flow

The movie below shows the results from an experimental measurement of the flow within a large Rayleigh-Bénard cell.

LaVision: Helium-filled soap bubbles are used to visualize airflows around a moving skater

This exciting survey was conducted at TU Delft using their Ring of Fire measurement system.

In this experiment thousands of bubbles filled with helium were illuminated with strong light to visualize the flow field around moving skaters.

Wing 'clap' studies using LaVision Tomo-PIV reveal the amazing power behind butterfly flight

Researchers working in the Animal Flight Lab within Lund University’s Department of Biology have used LaVision’s Tomographic PIV during their studies.

Meet the FlowPike – LaVision's latest development in collaboration with MARIN

LaVisionis proud to be involved as PIV system supplier for MARIN’s(Maritime Research Institute Netherlands) latest development: the unique large-scale Stereo-PIV measurement device ‘FlowPike’ contains a combination of water-cooled PIV cameras and a double-pulse laser head, along with sophisticated mechanics in a water-tight enclosure to be used for flow measurements on real ships.

LaVision expands camera portfolio with Imager MX 25M and 50M

These small, lightweight CMOS cameras from LaVision are ideally suited for applications where extraordinary spatial resolution is required

Both camera models are unsurpassed high-resolution digital cameras, equipped with the new generation global shutter CMOS sensor and a CoaxPress interface for unbeaten image transfer speed.

The Imager MX 25M with a resolution of 26 Megapixel and the Imager MX 50M with a resolution of 48 Megapixel in combination with their outstanding image quality make these camera models ideal for a wide range of applications. At reduced spatial resolution the frame rate of the cameras can be increased up to several hundred Hz making the cameras suitable also for mid-speed range applications in water or other fluids.
