The laser interferometers of the SIOS Messtechnik GmbH SP-NG series are precision length measuring instruments with a wide range of applications in research and industry. They can be adapted to specific tasks and are characterized by easy handling and beam adjustment. The compact design enables them to be used even in confined spaces. In addition to small ball reflectors with screw and magnet attachments also plane mirrors, other tilt-invariant reflectors and surfaces with optical quality are used. The long-range laser interferometer SP 15000 NG is available in different versions for measuring ranges up to 40 m, 60 m and 80 m. By further additional components such as a 90° beam deflection in four spatial directions or a highly stable beam direction alignment for very compact designs expands the range of applications of laser interferometers. New from Ocean Optics: Ocean MZ5 ATR-MIR Spectrometer Rapid, Accurate Mid-Infrared Analysis

The Ocean Optics Ocean MZ5 is a miniature ATR spectrometer with measurement capabilities from 1818-909 cm-1  (5.5-11 µm). This fully self-contained instrument — including sample interface, light sources and detector — provides a compact, fast and scalable alternative to traditional FTIR spectroscopy. Applications include chemical discrimination, food and flavorings analysis, environmental testing and scientific research.

Ocean MZ5 is ready to go out of the box and does not require any external equipment such as light sources or fibers. Ocean Mirror, the software that comes with the system, is designed for measuring absorbance and transmittance of liquids placed on the instrument’s crystal surface.

Laser Quantum New video: How to set up your finesse laser

The next instalment of Laser Quantum's “how to” video series has arrived, demonstrating the set-up and operation of a finesse laser. Please note that this video is for demonstration purposes only; when setting up any finesse laser you must ensure that the head is actively cooled and attached to a heat-sink, in addition to any other laser safety requirements.

The finesse is a high specification laser delivering up to 16 W at 532 nm. A compact and effective laser, it requires minimal cooling due to its high efficiency, and is ideal for Ti:Sapphire pumping, optical tweezing and Particle Image Velocimetry.
