SPMMicro (and formerly known as SPMScint) - Low Cost High Gain APD

SPMMicro

SensL's SPMMicro series is a High Gain APD and encapsulates SensL's world-leading APD technology in a variety of miniature, easy to use, low cost packages. The SPMMicro detector series is suitable for applications requiring high sensitivity, low noise detection in the visible to near IR range.

The SPMMicro series is a solid-state detector sensitive to single photons. The detector consists of an array of Geiger Mode Avalanche Photodiodes (APDs), each individually coupled to integrated quench electronics. It is a type of detector commonly referred to as a Silicon Photomultiplier (SPM). The SPMMicro combines high gain and quantum efficiency characteristics comparable to Photomultiplier Tube (PMT) detectors with the additional benefits of silicon technology such as compact size, magnetic field insensitivity, low operating voltage, robustness, and tolerance to overexposure

SensL offers two detector sizes for the SPMMicro series, a circular 1mm diameter and a square 3mm x 3mm active area. Two SPM design options are available where the number and size of the microcell in the SPM are varied for PDE optimization and optimal Dynamic Range.

These detectors come in a variety of pin package formats according to footprint requirements, levels of hermeticity, and cooling. These include glass/metal sealed transistor header package types (TO46, TO5, TO8) and ceramic packages (TO5 pin compatible) where the detector is mounted on a ceramic and covered with a clear epoxy resin for applications that applications that require excellent coupling to scintillators as an example.

SPMMini: High Performance, High Gain APDs

SPMMini

The SPMMini is the first solid state alternative to the long established Photomultiplier Tube (PMT). It combines the high gain (106) and high quantum efficiency of the PMT with the well appreciated benefits of silicon including size, low operating voltage, robustness, reliability, magnetic field insensitivity, tolerance of excess/ambient light, and suitability for miniaturization. In addition, the detector has high signal to noise and fast timing properties.

The SPMMini includes transimpedance preamplification, a Peltier cooler driver circuit to enable cooling to -30C and integrated power supply as standard. A variety of add-on options to enhance functionality are provided, including C-mount (male) adapter and a fiber coupler (adapter and fiber cable included).

SPMPlus: Large Area High Gain APDs

SPMPlus

The SPMPlus is a large area version of SensL's SPM detectors incorporating an array of individual Silicon Photomultiplier (SPM) pixels tiled together using a novel packaging concept. The output of the tiles are summed together resulting in a sensor with a large active area - the first silicon alternative for Large Area PMT. The detector is packaged in a format suitable for scintillator coupling or free space / fluorescence applications and is available with appropriate interface / preamplifier electronics.

The SPMPlus is the first solid state alternative to the analog Large Area Photomultiplier Tube. It combines the high gain (106) and gain stability advantages of the PMT technology with the well appreciated benefits of size, operating voltage, robustness, reliability, magnetic insensitivity and suitability for miniaturization of silicon detectors. In addition, the novel design is tolerant to excess / ambient light.

SPMArray - Position Sensitive/Multi Anode High Gain APD

SPMArray

SensL's Position Sensitive / Multi-Anode Silicon Photomultiplier Array (SPMArray) is the first commercially available, solid-state, large array detector based on silicon photomultiplier technology. The SPMArray will be of particular interest to developers of detector systems for applications such as PET, Gamma Camera, and Radiation Detection for medical and security purposes and to those working with fluorescence applications requiring very sensitive detector arrays.

The SPMArray is an arrayed version of SensL's novel Silicon Photomultiplier (SPM) pixels tiled together using flip chip technology on glass. The performance and specification characteristics of each pixel are similar to SensL's other SPM products. The device is sensitive to visible light in the range of 400nm to 850nm and is suited to applications requiring direct light detection at these wavelengths or for radiation detection via scintillators.

The SPMArray is mounted in a low profile housing and includes a Molex board to board connector through which the output signal of each pixel is addressed separately. The module can be supplied with appropriate interface / preamplifier electronics for each analog channel and a power supply (option).
