- Grating-stabilized diode lasers
- Littrow design
- DFB diodes
- Broadest wavelength coverage worldwide
- Narrow linewidth

TOPTICA introduced its first tunable diode laser systems in 1995. Ever since, we have been dedicated to stay ahead in terms of power, wavelength coverage and variety. We scan the market for available laser diodes and cooperate with numerous manufacturers to supply customized new wavelengths and powers. At present our laser diodes cover the range from 373 to 3000 nm with only few gaps and more wavelengths are continuously being added. In addition, well-equipped testing facilities for diode characterization and lifetime measurements ensure accurate specifications, reliable laser operation and constant high quality. |

The DL pro combines extended tunability with highest stability, two previously incompatible characteristics of external cavity diode lasers. This is possible only due to TOPTICA's innovative mechanical design. Based on a novel engineering approach, it provides much reduced susceptibility against environmental acoustic noise. Special care has been taken also in choosing dimensions and materials to reduce frequency shifts caused by variations of the ambient temperature. The laser can easily be set to any wavelength within the specified tuning range of 30 nm. An optimized pivot point leads to a modehop-free scan range so far unmatched by any other commercial Littrow-type grating stabilized diode lasers. As the ideal laser for many demanding applications, the DL pro ensures TOPTICA’s leadership in the market for external cavity diode lasers for the years to come.
Typical applications: - High resolution laser spectroscopy
- Laser cooling & BEC
- Electromagnetically induced transparency
- Magnetometry

Distributed feedback (DFB) laser systems offer wide tunability, narrow linewidth and high output power in a compact and very rugged setup. In a DFB diode, the frequency selective element – a Bragg grating – is integrated into the active section of the semiconductor. Thus, single-frequency operation and high coherence (coherence length 50 - 200 m) are obtained without any bulk optics, making DFB lasers particularly suitable for use within harsh industrial environments or for airborne applications.
A DFB diode can be tuned by changing either the temperature (typical tuning rate 25 GHz/K) or the operating current (1 - 2 GHz/mA). While current-tuning is favourable for rapid modulation tasks, thermal tuning has the advantage of providing extremely large mode-hop free tuning ranges (up to 1200 GHz).
To make full use of the attractive properties of DFB lasers, TOPTICA Photonics has developed the DL DFB laser system, where the laser diode is placed in our patented ColdPack housing. Four thermoelectric elements serve to stabilize laser temperature, or alternatively rapidly heat or cool the diode (temperature range 0-50 °C). State-of-the-art control electronics guarantee low-noise performance and maximum flexibility to adapt the system to the user’s requirements. DFB lasers are available at a wide range of wavelengths, including 780 nm, 785 nm, 852 nm, 895 nm, 935 nm and 1064 nm. Applications include alkaline spectroscopy (Rb, Cs), laser cooling, gas detection (O2, H2O) and the generation of tunable Terahertz (THz) radiation.

- Tunable, high power solutions
- Semiconductor amplifier
- External cavity diode lasers
- Proprietary "RockSolid" design
- More than 1 Watt output power

In the past, the output of semiconductor lasers was limited and insufficient for a variety of applications. The facets of single-mode laser diodes (typically 1 x 3 ìm) suffer optical damage at high power levels, whereas with larger facets the desired spatial mode properties cannot be maintained. Powerful tunable CW light could thus only be generated with vast solid-state lasers or dye ring laser systems alongside with expensive pump sources. TOPTICA managed to overcome these limitations with the development of the tapered amplifier TA 100. This laser system, introduced in 1998, offers not only high power, but also excellent beam quality and an extremely narrow linewidth. Researchers further benefit from convenient tunability, lowest operational costs and long lifetimes. Specifications & Configurations High Power Diode Lasers and Amplifiers

TOPTICA's DLX 110 RockSolid diode laser system is an outstanding tool for any application in high-resolution spectroscopy due to its exceptional narrow linewidth and extreme wavelength stability. The DLX 110 RockSolid features up to 1 W output power at selected wavelengths with single frequency and single spatial mode emission. Fine-tuning is accomplished by an internal piezoelectric drive.
The RockSolid technology reduces the acoustic and vibrational sensitivity of the DLX by a factor of approx. 100 compared to conventional external cavity diode lasers. It approaches the stability of real monolithic laser resonators.
The factory-preset wavelength can be set on request to any wavelength in the range 6 nm with respect to the center wavelength. The DLX 110 RockSolid is very attractively priced and optionally incorporates an internal output isolator (35 or 60 dB), high frequency modulation input and a probe beam output. It is also available with TOPTICAs outstanding fiber coupler (FiberDock). The laser system is complemented with a modular set of control electronics, which can be extended with sophisticated control electronics and locking modules from the established DL 100 series.
