Giant Laser Reactor Unveiled in California

A massive laser fusion reactor at the National Ignition Facility, part of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, San Francisco, was formally opened recently in front of dignitaries including California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. Inside the reactor, 192 laser beams are focussed on a target the size of a bean, heating it to temperatures comparable to the interior of the sun. Read more here.
