Rhino laser safety curtains: Cost effective, certified laser blocking curtains for low and medium powered lasers

Lasermet’s Rhino Range of Laser Safety Curtains are manufactured from a specially developed laser-blocking material and can be supplied ready-made as ceiling or wall-mounted curtains.

The grey material will operate as a blackout curtain as well as a laserblocking curtain and is ideal for laboratories and manufacturing facilities.

Ideal for use with Class 3B and expanded Class 4 lasers, the material is tested in accordance with EN IEC 12254 - Screens for laser working places. The results are shown below for the various wavelengths.

The top of the curtain has eyelets every 150 mm and the curtain is supplied with a stainless steel hook for connecting to a curtain track.

The weight of the material is 900g/sqm. Heavy duty curtain tracks can be supplied for smooth operation and for applications where the curtain needs to be suspended below the fixing points, high-quality cubicle curtain track is available.

Standard screens are made from a laser-blocking material which has been specially developed for laser safety by Lasermet, This can be supplied off the roll or as ready-made ceiling or wall-mounted curtains, roller blinds, window blocks or free standing screens and enclosures.

Also available are heavy-duty screens for high power, multi-kilowatt materials-processing lasers. These are made from a 50 mm thick sandwich of steel and a special lightweight laser-blocking material.

The Laser-Blocking Curtains Lastek supplies is made by Lasermet using their specially-developed laser-blocking material.

Not only does the fire-proof curtain operate as a laser-blocking screen but also as a blackout screen.

Both sides of the material will block laser radiation, but if the white side is used as the laser-blocking side a higher laser blocking specification is achieved making the curtain suitable for higher power lasers.

Lasermet: The ICS-6 “ELISe" (Expandable Laser Interlock System ‘e’)

The Lasermet ICS-6 “ELISe” Expandable Laser Interlock System (to achieve performance level ‘e’) is designed to achieve EN ISO 13849-1 PLe. It is housed in a similar unit to the ICS-5, which is the most popular Laser Interlock Control System designed and manufactured by Lasermet, but the expandable ICS-6 has, as one of its options, remote monitoring.

This compact, versatile unit can control laser interlocks, door locks, illuminated warning signs and other equipment. It can operate beam shutters and the laser power with feedback monitoring and fault detection. It can be interfaced to Access Control and Fire Detection Systems and is fitted with an Override to allow controlled access through interlocked doors while also accepting emergency stop inputs.

The ICS-6 provides even higher levels of safety and functionality and has full start-to-end dual channel architecture and fault detection to meet the latest standards.

Lasermet Laser Jailer: The Active Laser Guarding System with Inherent Fail Safe Technology

This photograph shows three enclosures housing a 16kW fibre laser which is distributed to three robots - one in each separate room within the enclosure. ICS-15XM Laser interlock controllers can be seen adjacent to the doors.

The Laser Jailer active laser guarding system combines an inherently fail-safe laser detection technique and Lasermet's proven laser interlock control system technology to create an active laser guarding system which is fail safe to Machinery Directive Standard EN13849-1.

The system is designed to contain a high powered laser beam in a laser enclosure which is smaller and lighter than would otherwise be necessary. It comprises of an outer passive enclosure and an inner active enclosure made up of detector tiles which are connected to Lasermet's ICS interlock system.

Lasermet's fail-safe technology isolates the laser safety input in less than 50ms. The laser machine responds to this laser termination signal and laser radiation is terminated – the actual laser termination time being dependent on the laser machine in use.

It has been designed to form part of a high-integrity safety system and features a gravity-close blade and force-disconnect proving contacts. When closed, the shutter deflects the incoming laser beam onto an internal beam dump where the energy is converted to heat which is dissipated in the aluminium casing of the shutter. When the shutter is open, the laser beam passes through the shutter without interruption.
