Tunable Argon

Melles Griot line-tunable argon-ion lasers use a Littrow prism to select a specific output wavelength. By tilting the prism, the laser can be tuned through all of the available wavelengths ranging from 454 nm to 514 nm. Depending upon the model, either eight or nine lines will be selectable. Nonetheless, only performance at 488 nm and 514 nm is guaranteed.

All systems feature both automatic power control (light regulation) and automatic current control modes that are accessible through an RS-232 interface. Output can be varied from near threshold to full power.

Single Line Ar

Melles Griot single-line argon-ion lasers use wavelength-selective mirror coatings to limit output to a single, fixed wavelength. Standard lasers are available with output at 457 nm (violet/deep blue), 488 nm (blue) and 514 nm (green), with output up to 150 mW. Single-line argon-ion lasers are available with sealed internal mirrors (IMA series) or with replaceable external mirrors.

All systems feature both automatic power control (light regulation) and automatic current control modes that are accessible through an RS-232 interface. Output can be varied from near threshold to full power.

Multiline Ar

Multiline argon-ion lasers operate in several wavelengths simultaneously, with combined output power as high as 490 mW. Although the relative intensity of the individual lines is not guaranteed, the bulk of the output power is in the 488-nm and 514-nm wavelengths. Multiline argon-ion lasers are available with sealed internal mirrors (IMA series) or with replaceable external mirrors.

Systems feature both automatic power control (light regulation) and automatic current control modes that are accessible through an RS-232 interface. Output can be varied from near threshold to full power.

Krypton Ion

Melles Griot Krypton-ion lasers have output across the visible. The major krypton wavelengths are 568 nm (yellow), 647 nm (red), and 676 nm (red). The blue-green wavelengths of krypton are significantly weaker than those of argon-ion lasers, so in many cases krypton and argon are mixed in the same discharge tube to provide balanced output (see argon/krypton lasers). Melles Griot only offers single-line krypton lasers with output at 568 nm. Single-line yellow output is available from our line of krypton/argon lasers. The individual krypton red lines can be obtained from our tunable argon/krypton lasers.

Melles Griot high-power HeNe lasers are available with output ranging from 17 mW to 35 mW, making them ideal for Raman spectroscopy, holography, fast scanning, and test and measurement applications. Most are available with either random or linear polarization, and they can be mounted in a variety of orientations without sacrificing power or performance. Systems are convection cooled and operate from standard 115-Vac or 230-Vac outlets. The 17-mW systems are packaged in a cylindrical housing. The 25- and 35-mW systems are packaged in a rectangular housing.

Melles Griot stabilized helium neon laser systems are ideal for applications such as metrology, interferometry, and surface defect inspection that require a single, invariant frequency. These single-longitudinal-mode systems have a coherence length measured in kilometers, and exhibit excellent power stability for long periods of time. They permit highly repeatable, highly accurate measurements with superb resolution. The output is an economical and reliable calibration reference and a well-defined low-noise frequency source for fiber-optic and diode laser testing. Both output power and frequency can be varied over a wide range; however, changing the power will also change the frequency and vice versa. Critical specifications include:

  • 1-MHz frequency stability at 473.61254 THz
  • <0.2% power fluctuation over eight hours
  • Frequency tunable over 300 MHz
  • Linear polarization with >5000:1 extinction ratio.

Green Helium Neon Lasers (543nm)

Green HeNe lasers have up to five times the visibility of red lasers with the same output power. Consequently, they are ideal for aiming and pointing applications. They also are the lasers of choice for many biotechnology, cytometry, microscopy, and graphics applications, since the wavelength closely corresponds to the peak absorption bands of fluorescent dyes, reagents, and film.

Green HeNe lasers are available with powers ranging from 0.20 mW to 2.00 mW, in linearly and randomly polarized configurations.

Melles Griot 633-nm lasers have been field proven in applications ranging from simple alignment and pointing at construction sites and sawmills to precision measurement and ranging in the rigors of space. Typical lifetime is as high as 50,000 operating hours. 

  • High-power lasers, with output up to 35 mW, available in cylindrical or rectangular configurations, are ideal for Raman spectroscopy, fast scanning, and test-and-measurement applications that benefit from increased signal-to-noise performance.
  • Stabilized single-frequency lasers, with coherence lengths measured in kilometers, are ideal for calibration, precision measurement, and ranging applications.

Cylindrical HeNe Lasers :

Melles Griot manufactures a wide variety of cylindrical HeNe laser systems, only a few of which are represented here. All laser heads are mounted in rugged aluminum housings and come with a matched power supply. All systems meet CDRH requirements for laser equipment, and all 230-Vac versions are CE compliant. Lasers are available in randomly polarized (LHR series) or linearly polarized (LHP series) versions. Self-Contained HeNe Lasers :

Self-contained HeNe lasers combine the laser tube and power supply in a single, compact package. They are ideal for alignment, component testing, and general laboratory use, as well as for educational and high-volume OEM applications. Melles Griot offers two package configurations: a stand-alone rectangular package that can sit directly on a laboratory table, and a cylindrical package that can be mounted in a conventional laser holder or attached to a table using the included snap-in base.
