Toptica iBeam Smart: now available at 515nm

TOPTICA presents direct diode technology at 515 nm . So far, the green wavelength regime has not been accessible directly with laser diodes. Integrated in TOPTICA’s OEM diode laser iBeam smart, the new wavelength was recently demonstrated live at Photonics West. Other newly available wavelengths are 395 nm (120 mW), 420 nm (120 mW) and 460 nm (100 mW). Furthermore high power versions of 445 nm (100 mW) and 473 nm (80 mW) are available starting now. These new wavelengths will be integrated in the iBeam smart, the new fiber-pigtailed diode laser iBeam smart PT and TOPTICA’s new multi laser engine, the iChrome MLE.

Control you new Signal Recovery DSP Lock-in Amp by iPad

The Signal Recovery model 7230 is a new concept in general-purpose DSP lock-in amplifiers. It offers the excellent performance that users expect from such instruments but at a lower price than many competitive models. This improvement in price/performance ratio has been achieved by replacing the traditional control buttons and display with easy-to-use control panels that can be operated from any computer via your favorite browser.

No longer do you need to be in front of the instrument to operate it - now you can set up your experiment in the lab but return to the office while it runs, monitoring what is happening via your computer. And if you need to make a change to a setting then it’s as easy as clicking a button on a web page. The model 7230 can even be operated via iPad, shown above.

In addition to the web control panels, the instrument can also be fully controlled from other software packages, such as Acquire, SRInstComms, orLabVIEW. These support experiments such as frequency response measurements, logging of instruments outputs over time, and integration with other experimental equipment.

The Torus Miniature Spectrometer from Ocean Optics is a Visible range (360-825 nm) unit that delivers low stray light and is ideal for measuring color. Its increased sensitivity and throughput also make is perfect for low light level applications. Torus delivers scientific-grade performance with outstanding thermal stability, making is a brilliant choice for a wide range of challenging applications.

For Torus, a variable line spacing grating with 550 (+/-2) grooves/mm groove density at center is used, with a nominal blaze wavelength of 400 nm. This design yields an optical bench in which light can be manipulated more efficiently. The concave grating also helps to improve thermal stability of the Torus. Wavelength drift is nearly eliminated and peak shape stays the same over a wide temperature range. Next Generation THz from Toptica: Fast, compact and cost effective

TOPTICA presents new cw THz System with 1.5 µm lasers

At the recent Photonics West exhibition, TOPTICA Photonics presented the most compact frequency-domain terahertz spectrometer built to-date. The system combines TOPTICA’s new TeraBeam, a highly integrated twocolor diode laser, with newly developed InGaAs/InP emitter and detector technology (Fraunhofer Heinrich-Hertz Institute, Berlin, Germany).

The new cw THz system features a fast scan option, which reduces the acquisition times in cw THz spectroscopy by more than two orders of magnitude and acquires a complete THz spectrum (e.g. 50-1200 GHz, sub-GHz resolution) in less than a minute. Thus far, research in the field of frequency-domain (cw) terahertz has largely been carried out with GaAs photomixers, requiring laser wavelengths below 870 nm. Whilst excellent results in terms of bandwidth and signal quality have been obtained, the complexity of the optical source and a variety of non-standard optical components resulted in a price level inadequate for widespread industrial use.

Laser imaging in dense sprays

LaVision Spraymaster

In late 2010, LaVision introduced Structured Laser Illumination Planar Imaging (SLIPI) - a novel technique for laser imaging in dense sprays. Planar laser imaging is widely employed in the field of optical spray diagnostics. However, in many spraying applications or two-phase flows a large amount of light is multiply scattered and the single scattering approximation is no longer valid. This may introduce substantial errors and reduces the number of applications for standard laser imaging techniques. With the new technique of Structured Laser Illumination Planar Imaging (SLIPI) it is possible to suppress multiple scattering and indirect reflections effectively and to enhance image contrast resulting in a much better visualization of break-up and atomization processes in dense sprays. It also enables the feasibility for single-shot and averaged imaging using standard laser systems. From the modulated images SLIPI and conventional results can be extracted and compared.
