piezosystem jena GmbH presents new CAN-Bus interface for digital piezo controllers/amplifiers

- data transfer via CAN-Bus reduces reaction time of piezo actuators to under one Millisecond – ten times faster
- long reaction times are high cost factor, especially in au-tomation engineering – CAN-Bus can help reduce these costs
piezosystem jena GmbH, a worldwide developer and manufacturer of piezo actuators, stages and controllers for nanopositioning, is introducing a new CAN-Bus interface for its digital piezo controllers. The CAN-Bus allows for much faster reaction times of piezo actuators – below one Millisecond.
“Industry customers are constantly asking for faster and faster reaction times, especially when using piezo actuators in highly automated production processes”, says Dr. Bernt Götz, CEO of piezosystem jena, “With the CAN-Bus interface, we can now offer a solution that drastically increases the reaction times of our actuators.”
Achieving shorter reaction times for piezo actuators with more sophisticated controlling methods is where the industry is trending right now. Most likely it will become even more relevant in the coming years. Especially in automation engineering, shorter reaction times equal a higher output over the same amount of time. How fast an actuator reacts depends on the methods of controlling. The communication between a computer and the piezo controller is limited by the exchange of data packets. This exchange can result in delays between 2 and 16 milliseconds. The CAN-Bus interface by piezosystem jena allows for a much faster delivery of digital positioning values from the computer to the piezo controller. Reaction times of 0,25 Milliseconds can be guaranteed – around ten times faster than before.
The CAN-Bus interface is available for piezosystem jenas’ digital amplifiers 30DV50 and 30DV300. Upon request, the piezo controllers d-Drive and d-Drivepro can also be outfitted with this new interface.
